Looking for information on the proper adjustment of the link for the brake cam lever in the hand brake of an M38, which doesn't seem to be covered in the manuals. Best I can tell it has to be done before putting the brake drum on. These are the parts:

Lever, brake cam WO-10333
Link, brake operating lever WO-10334
Spring, brake operating lever spacer WO-10336
Washers and nuts
items Z, AA, BB, CC, KK, and LL respectively, in Fig. 12-1 of ORD 9 SNL G-740

Do I just adjust it until all the slack is out of the linkage?

If you are asking about the free play adjustment for the cable/cam linkage that is not covered in the military manual but it is addressed in the CJ manual SM-1002. It specs adjusting the cam ball nut to get 3/32" clearance between the cam arm and the back plate. Then it addresses the free play in the cable should be removed with the handbrake fully released and the shoes adjusted tight against the drum. Then it directs you to back off the shoe adjusters 7 clicks each at the end of the adjustment procedure.

I'm a bit confused by the 3/32" clearance spec. Is that between the short arm of the "LEVER, operating", WO-800811 (the lever that is pulled by the cable) and the backing plate where the lever goes through the rectangular hole in the plate, so that the lever isn't bumping up against the plate?

Looks like I'll have to wait until I get the body back on the frame to do the other adjustments correctly.
