Hi there!

Is the transmission cover off a 3A the same as what is used on a CJ5/M38A1? They look very similar.

Thanks!

When you say tranny cover there are usually three choices.

1-The lid that bolts directly to the gear box.

2-The large floor panels on the M38/M38A1/M170/CJ5 that cover the tranny and the bellhousing.

3-The smaller rectangular stamped steel cover with the round hole for the tranny shifter cane.

Item 1 for civvy jeeps does not have an integral boot for the shifter cane and for the M38/M38A1/M170 it has an integral rubber boot.

Item 2 for the CJ3A does not exist. For the M38/M38A1/M170 the two piece panel sets are interchangeable. The CJ5 one piece large panel is not the same.

Item 3 for the civvy jeeps has holes drilled around the center hole for the rubber boot for the shifter cane and it's retainer plate. The M38/M38A1/M170 unit has no holes and the lip of that center hole is rolled downward since their rubber cane boot is attached the gear box cover and just pokes up through the panel.

Thanks for the question (and answer), as I was about to ask the same thing. #2 is the answer I needed, so it's now off to the Jeep Farm!
