Clutch compatability

Hi all,
I've always assumed the MB clutch and the M38 clutch were the same.
ie same friction plate and same pressure plate. I keep my clutch parts on the same shelf and have never noticed any difference in them however.............
I've just fitted a new clutch to the M38 I suspect I've used a new MB pressure plate and MB friction plate. And I'm wondering if thats why I can't get the clutch to disengage?
When the the clutch fork is back solid against the inside of the bellhousing it doesnt push the centre of the pressure plate forwards enough to release the drive.
The fork is on the thrust fingers and seated on the pivot bolt.
I cleaned the flywheel with carb clreaner and then thinners.
I used a centering tool.
Any ideas what I might have missed?
Thanks,
Dave.
