Is that ball some sort of switch??

What is this?

Yes - when you press in on the ball it connects the two wires and completes the circuit. What is missing is whatever it screws into.

Whatever it is, it's brand new and in great shape!

Some sort of pressure switch. Stop switch for air brakes on one of the bigger trucks?

It is a horn switch. On my M38A1 it is located at the lower end of the steering column - i.e. after it has passed through the steering gear. A long brass rod connects it to the horn button in the center of the steering wheel.

That's what I thought, but mine has a stub at the end instead of a ball:

Could just be from a different manufacturer though. :?

Mine has a number stamped into it, 800289 (or possibly 800299). Tim, does yours have any ID number stamped into it?

The switch you have is the replacement switch for the horn. The original design is no longer made and the one you have is the closest we can come today.

Sorry - didn't check back. The switch is long gone - I think I swapped it to John at Midwest Military..
