M38A1 horn question

I am having problems with the horn button on my 1952 M38A1. I checked the forums and found someone else had a similar problem so thought that the rubber button was the source of my problem. I ordered a new one and still have the problem. By the time I get the rubber button to seal around the steering wheel nut it pushes down on the metal washer and engages the horn. I can adjust the metal washer out but the rubber button still pushes too far on it. Are there different metal washers? The order is steering wheel nut, metal washer, rubber button, correct?
I would appreciate it if anyone has any suggestions.
Thanks,
Kendall

The horn rod that goes to the bottom of the column and engauges the switch has a disc end up by the rubber button that is threaded for adjustment. Turn it down some or shorten the rod. That's what mine has anyway. John

The switch is also adjustable. If you need more room, back the switch out an set the jam nut to lock it in place. Either the upper adjustment is out, or the lower. The parts you have are correct and will work.

Yeah, what John said. I had the same problem, but I didn't even have a jam nut - had to order one. Turned the switch in until everything workedd right and tightened down the nut - not a problem since then
