Distributor

Post by RickC »

After trying a new cap and rotor I'm having the same issue again. M38 runs rough and when I open distributor the rotor is hitting the brass lug for #4 plug and gouging a groove in it. Distributor shaft has no side play in it. What could be causing the rotor to hit the brass lug in the cap??

I've read where some of the new production inner caps are not formed correctly. Are you sure when you screwed it to the outer that it's all the way down on the mounts with the screws? It could be tilted some. The english repro lucas caps had the same poor mfg. issues. Sometimes a good used original is the way to go. I have a repro myself and haven't run it yet----------we'll see  . John

Have you dialed the shaft to see if it is bent?

The directions from the Auto-Lite manual are in the downloads section. Not a difficult task. The PITA is drilling the pin out of the shaft retainer to remove the shaft from the housing. When you get the shaft out just chuck it up in a lathe or drill press and set-up the dial gauge at the rotor end of the shaft.
