I've located a YS 950S Carb with a 1-897 throttle body which I understand is correct for the M38A1. The problem is that I can't see how to connect the hand throttle to the throttle arm on the carb.

Does anyone have a photo showing how the cable is connected? If it requires an additional part do you know of a source? I have wire stop for the end of the cable but that's it.

Hey Tim,

There is a bracket mounted on the back 2 cover screws. Wes has an album showing a bunch of different angles of the carb - for some reason my phone won't let me post the link.

The throttle cable goes thru the bracket at the top left of the photo.

Thanks, that helps a lot. I currently have a Carter YF installed, using a different throttle rod that doesn't have the swivel installed. With your pix to go by, I went to a box of stray items from my parts Jeep and found the correct rod. I've also tracked down the throttle cable bracket so I should be in business as soon as the carb and a few other pieces arrive.

I am having the same issue with attaching my hand throttle cable to the carb linkage.

Wes, in your last photo above, you show a "slide block" attached to the throttle rod. My throttle rod does not have the slide block. Is the side block something I can purchase as a separate unit and attach it to my throttle rod or does it come already mounted (ie, welded) to the throttle rod?

Does the slide block come by any other names?

I take it that a slide block is not the same as a wire stop.

I couldn't find one in my local hardware or automotive store so I made one with a short, small bolt and two nuts. I drilled a hole through the bolt, set one of the nuts above the hole, the other below it, and then passed the throttle rod or cable through the hole. Then a cranked down the two nuts to compress on the throttle cable, holding it in place. I have some excess cable on the outboard end but am leaving that alone, uncut, for now.
Just a field expedient suggestion to get you going. It has been working well for me for a year.

It is permanently fastened to the rod with a welded washer. It is free to pivot while the rod moves back and forth and also up and down a bit as well.

I might modify your design by making two holes in the bolt, one for the throttle rod to pass thru and the other for the hand throttle cable wire to pass thru. I will then use a wire stop on the outboard end of the wire. I believe that way there would be less chance of the cable wire to interfere with the movement of the rod.

Well, I've been searching for the correct throttle rod for my A1 for a couple months with no success. My throttle linkage has no place to attach the wire coming out of the hand trottle cable.

I decided to do some jerry-rigging and came up with the following solution. I purchased a small 1/8" U-clamp (U-bolt) and two wire stops. Luckily, the threads on the U-clamp were the same size threads used by the wire stops.

I attached the set-up to the throttle rod as close as I could to the carb. I did not tighten the wire stop to the U-clamp so it can swivel side-to-side. The following is the best I could do at drawing my set-up. It works perfectly!
