Valve tappet clearance

Post by Bretto »

Is it better to adjust the valve tappet at running temp or does it matter?

Also a side observation when looking for specs on the clearance, I found the specs for the MB and 2A show it should be .014. The 3A and M38 manuals show .016. I was always under the impression that the engines were the same.

14 was the old setting. Willys changed that to .016 right after WWII. Setting valve clearance too tight has always been an issue with folks seeing .014 on the head and in the older manuals.

Who knows the last time mine have been done so I'm going to check and adjust if needed.
Is there a set mileage range that they should be checked?
