Hey Guys,
I am looking for any breakdown of which wires get power at each position of the switch. For example service drive would make wires 21,22,75 hot and so forth... I am wiring my dads 52 m38 for him from scratch and would like to not overlook simple things and have to solder more than I need to.

Thanks
Jeff

You also might give Joe Hall of Vintage Wiring of Maine a look. He makes excellent reproduction wiring harness with the corrrect ends.

He is also a big M38 guy and just finished a refresh on his M38 last year for the MVPA national.

You can certainly use the excellent resources available right here to answer those questions.

Look closely at the chapter I loaded from the Bendix service TM 9-1825E on the light switch.

For later single plug light switches just ignore the plug and it's wires on the right.

Thanks guys!! I'll check out all the info tonight...
My dad purchased a cannon plug with leads from vintage, but spending 700+ on a harness was out of the question.

Well worth the money, it is a good product. Having a correctly wired and insulated harness is important for 24 volts.

I was test running my engine one day and the positive lead for the horn touched the body - that lead is always hot.

24 volts melts stuff quickly! Fortunately I was right by the battery and cut it off before it could melt very much.

Ryan, no doubt that vintage does great work. I should have given some background on the jeep... Previous owner installed 2.0L Pinto motor. It was already 12v, but the wires were a rats nest! I simplified it with a one wire alt, and points eliminator kit, with a internal ballast coil. Minimized wires and components for my dad. Plus doing this project together is good for the old man and I.
