Machine Gun Dash Mount or Step Mount for 1919A4?

I am new to military jeeps, but just bought a 1951 M38. I would like to mount a 1919A4 on either a dash mount or step mount. I have several questions:

1. It looks like a step mount would interfere with the side mounted axe and shovel. Is this correct? Any solution to keep both?

2. On the step mount, will it swing 360 degrees with am ammo can? Does the bottom of the ammo can holder clear a folded windshield?

3. Will the M48 mount fit on my M38? If so, will the bottom of an ammo can holder clear everything?

4. Is there any problem having both a dash mount and a rifle rack? Do they clear each other including the swing of the ammo can holder?

5. Which is better for shooting? More stable? More usable?

I haven't found any good pictures of either with a gun and ammo can. If anyone can point me to pictures, I would appreciate it.

Also posted this on G503, but it seems kind of buried in their sight.

Go through the member albums, there is one somewhere has shots of some I believe SAS jeeps with dash mounted 30cal. I am somewhat new to this but aside from the brits all historical shots I've seen they mount a 30, 50, or recoiless in the back, except one of a recoiless dash mounted.

I looked through all of the member galleries. I did not find one picture of a dash mount, and only one obscured picture of a step mount. Several rear pedestal mounts, but I'm not interested in those at the moment. The obscured step mount is here, and I do not know if it is milspec or home made:

The Canadians have a right side cowl mount for the M38A1 CDN series that should be adaptable and would fill the bill nicely on an M38 with a 1919A1.
