Can anyone tell me the purpose of the two holes (marked by arrows) in the picture below.

The larger hole, just above the oblong holes for the right engine mount (cushion), has been worn and is slightly out-of-round. I can't find any pictures in the Manuals of anything mounted in this hole, but I have seen that the hole does appear in at least one picuture on page 274 of TM9-8015-2.

The smaller hole I believe is for a fuel line clip, but not sure.

The photos I have of that mount bracket show the small hole on the lower side.

Also I reviewed all the closeups in the TM 9-804A and TM 9-8014 of that mount and they all show neither hole used for anything. The ground strap in those manual photos all show it fastened to the rear mount rubber stud.

Not to beat on a dead horse, but.............
I reviewed the member photo albums for M38A1 and M170 pictures showing that right engine bracket. The two holes I pointed to in my picture are visible in several others' photos. So I'd conclude that they are "factory" holes. Their purpose, if any, is a mystery.

They aren't a total mystery. Many fabricated parts are machined to be used in more than one application. That mount bracket would also be used in the CJ5 and CJ6. There may be a need for the holes there. Also not that not both holes are in the same place in all photos as I pointed out above. There are several M series jeep parts that have design features only used in their civilian jeep counterpart.

could be tooling holes from when bracket was punched and formed..
