Unknown Part?

Anyone recognize this piece? If I remember correctly it had a spring attached to it for retracting the parking brake cable. It has what looked like maybe a tab broken off of it. Anyway I don't know if it is a piece that found it's way to the jeep in the past or if it is an original part.

I don't know if that part is from an M38.
The pictures of the parking brake retracting hardware in the manuals looks a little different.
You might hang on to it just in case.

Yeah I looked at the picture in the manual. there is a wire with bends on each end to hook to the spring. This must be a piece someone came up with to substitute for it.
