First my M38CDN will be ser.#F-100753 Delivered Date:5-19-52
Contract No. E-20 LV7 742 ARMY

My question is what gauges should I use for a this M38?
These are the options that I have to choose from:

Fuel level gauge has both Douglas metal shell connectors. AC 7728852 on face (I have 5)

Oil Pressure 0-60 Douglas metal shell connectors. 7954230 on face
Oil Pressure 0-120 Douglas metal shell connectors. 7728853

Temp 60-240 Douglas metal shell connectors. 7389567 (I have 4)

Battery gauge dis-chg Douglas metal shell connectors. 7728854 (I have 3)

I have both gauge cluster panels early and later to house the gauges.

Then I have a bunch of Packard rubber connector gauges, when I get
an idea of what is a fair price I will post them on the F/S section:

Oil press 0-30-60 ms 24541-2 on the face
Fuel level gauge ms 24544-2 on the face (I have 3)
Fuel level gauge (plastic case)
Temp gauge 120-240 ms 24543-2
Batt gen gauge with a red/yellow/green/red face ms 24532-2 (I have 3)
Batt gen gauge with a red/yellow/green face 7354232

Pat;

I relatively unexperienced at answering this and someone like Wes would be better, but from what I have heard from a couple of older jeep guys who have restored M38CDNs, they say the 0-60 was the earlier models, and was original.

Pat,
Those numbers are Ordnance part numbers starting with 7xxxxxx.

Those Ordnance numbers represent several different manufacturer's numbers. Try to select your gauges by their AC part numbers which should be on the face.

Fuel = AC1517561
Oil = AC1507680 (0-120 PSI)
Temp = AC1512422
The three gauges above are internal resistor units and were used on all US M38's after MC17855 and I assume the 1952 M38CDN's.

The 0-60 PSI oil pressure gauges were a field installation for a more accurate low pressure reading. Unless you are after a factory class resto I would run a 0-60 gauge.

Amps = AC1501244
Speedo = AC1580260 (SW 503A was added to the ORD 9 at some point after production ended.)

Thank you Wes

I will dig into them tonight and find a couple of each.
The rest will be placed here on the for sale section.

I found all the gauges you listed however I found a set of SW gauges also.
Oil press SW 505-L 0-60
Fuel SW 505-C
Temp SW 505-A
Speedo SW 503-A
Speedo SW 501-C

I also found a
Oil press AL E011221 0-120
Speedo AL EQ 10019

I can asume the Stewart Warner gauges were a later set then.

You'll find all the SW gauges listed in the M38A1 ORD 9 manual. In keeping with the Army's multiple suppliers policy they added SW in the same way they added the Delco starters, generators and regulators. These were stocked and installed in the field.
