Does it have the data plates on the dash? The date should be on them. If not, is the tag on the passenger wheelwell behind the seat still there? If it is, we can give you a timeframe of when it was built by the serial number.

DVLA used the serial number as the VIN number on my M38's V5, so I guess they would've done the same with yours. Check out the M38A1 database download here (the first link):

http://www.willysmjeeps.com/v2/modules. ... oad&cid=35

There's gaps in the list, but since MD-17964 and MD-18374 are both September 1952, there's a pretty good chance yours is September '52 as well. Don't think they were dated by day, just month & year.

Here's the location of the patent plate wilfreeman refers to (courtesy of Wes's photo album):

That plate is often overlooked, and can be hidden by many layers of paint.

Are you a member of the MVT? If so, apply for the free vehicle verification service:

http://www.mvt.org.uk/verification.html

They'll send an inspector out to confirm that your jeep is what it should be. If you're not a member, you'll need to cough up £40.

Oddball, thx for the e-mail, i'll respond here. So this is a licensing
problem rather than just a curiosity? There are a lot of guys here that can
help you with info. The only thing i can offer is this.. Ask all the questions
you can, talk to the responsible agency and find out exactly what they
require and try to satisfy said reqmts BEFORE handing over any
documents you may have. Good Luck!!
keep 'em rollin'

Good luck Eddie! I know registration can be a pain here in the US - I know it is probably the same over there too.

In less than 90 Deg F weather and not more than 1/3 of the open grill area covered it should not be a problem.
