my m38a1, has a temp gauge problem.
after a while driving it moves up to 260 on gauge ,
i have cleaned the fittings at rear and the engine temp switch twice its 24volt and cut back the douglas connector thinking its a break in wire but problem stil there.

there is no over heating

its just a pest when out driving, any ideas on what to do.

M series gauges are notoriously unreliable. You can start with this troubleshooting guide from the downloads section http://willysmjeeps.com/downloads/instruments.pdf . There is a lot of info available in the downloads section.

thanks for that.

i just cant get my head round it.

do you think i should look out for a new gauge or just leave it.

You should first troubleshoot the wiring, gauge and sender in accordance with the TB suggested above. If a component is not up to mustard the tests will reveal which component/s it/they are. Your symptom speaks strongly of a short in the wire between the gauge and the sender.
