Markings - Star on the hood

Hello all,

On the US M38, head of the star on the hood is it pointed at the windshield or to the front?

Pretty sure it's pointed to the front. Is on mine anyhow.

Check in the downloads section. Wes has some documents there and in his picture section that highlights the star size, orientation, and regs on even having one.
To paraphrase his comments, the star was used on the hood when US/Allied air superiority was not absolute. As I recall the hood star was pointed towards the windshield and visible when the windshield was down over the hood.

Stars are a "Discretion of the theater commander item" and were not always installed in the field. They did not come from Willys with them.

The AR850-5 and the TB 746-93-1 cover the correct placement of the star, size and etc. WWII was towards the windshield and 50's on up towards the front.

Size was the largest that would fit and be visible with the windshield folded down.
