I have a 67 A1 CDN2 and I am have an issue with the center tie rod end. The bend in them causes it to hit the inner tie rod. I have a couple now because I thought I received the wrong part the first time. The one that was on it was almost straight and to use one of the new ones I had to put it in a press and straighten it out.





Thinking it was the bell crank, I had a spare from my 3B so I ordered up a rebuild kit and then found that I couldn't use it because the CDN 2 mount is different.



When I had everything apart I could compare and measure the two bell cranks and they were the same sizes and angles. I had been hoping the standard bell crank would sit higher and be a bit longer and move the tie rod end up and out but it didn't appear to.

So what am I missing here? Anybody have any ideas? Sofar all I can come up with is to remove the mount and replace it with a more common one...

BTW it drive and handles normally. All the steering angles are appear good. I had no trouble getting it aligned...

OK after much searching I have a couple of questions on bell crank mounting on an A1...

Is the mount in the picture above is the same as all A1's? I just assumed it was different based on the bell crank and the mount on my unit. My 3B did not have a collar. The bell crank was flush on the mount/bracket. There was no mention of this when looking at the repair parts etc. nor did I really notice it until I was looking at Wilfreeman's "Rebirth of an A1" site and noticed he had a rubber seal between the mount and the crank.

Is the spacer/bell crank inner bearing race pushing up against that collar on the mount and the bolt all the lateral support there is?

There are two parts that aren't available that would fill that space caused by the collar and seal it?

Page 260 in the ORD 9 WO-801566 seal bell crank to bracket (p267 in the M38 ORD 9) (I assume this is the external seal that covers everything)

Page 262 In the ORD 9 WO-801666 spring bell crank to bracket (p269 in M38 ORD 9)

I found this information via a set of posts on this site for an M38 and verified the part numbers in both ORDs and also verified I can't find them anywhere so far.

I have the 80166 however as it is in my bell crank and, if I make a seal out of something, I should be able to mount the standard short bell crank (WO-647008) as described?

To be honest I don't see what good the 80166 does as, even in my current long bell crank it is just a heavy tin race like affair with a round circumferential spring in it that holds a seal against that collar on the mount/bracket. Sometimes engineering eludes me
