Exhuast stud to block sealant

Post by bl5211a »

Hello:

I am installing the exhaust studs and noticed that the outer two go into the coolant jacket.

What is the best way to seal these studs into the block? Should i use permetex ultra cooper silicone sealant or teflon pipe dope or something else?

Use the same sealant used on the head bolts. Good ole Permatex #1 has sufficed for over half a century. But if the bells and whistles are your preference then just go to the Permatex web site and review all the more modern specialized sealants they offer. I prefer to leave the silicon sealants to the plumbers to caulk around bath tubs. Stay with quality automotive sealants designed for use in gas, oil and anti-freeze that won't lift as easily as silicon does and end up clogging your oil pickup screen.
