Coil Testing

I thought I saw in a manual somewhere on how to test the coil (for dummies) in the downloads or maybe a link in a post somewhere. Now I can't seem to find it in the manuals or in a search. Could somebody please point me in the right direction or let me know if I'm just imagining this.
