Brake/Clutch assembly repair

As it says I am repairing my Brake/clutch assembly on my 67 CDN2 as my brake pedal is shifting back and forth several inches. I collected all the parts but now that I have it apart I see that the key for the clutch pedal appears to swaged into the shaft/tube. Actually right through and flattened on the inside of the shaft. The replacement shaft I have has a notch cut into it but it does not go right through and does not look even close to the size of the key on the original. Before I started I assumed, based on the shaft I received, that the key was removable.
There doesn't seem to be a part listed for the key so I'm beginning to think it might be considered integral to the shaft?
I was wondering what others do to address this? Or is the pedal shaft I received the wrong one? Or is there a better one with the key in place available?
Thanks
Warren

You are talking about item 24
There is a grove for the key in the inside of the clutch pedal and there is a short slot in the pivot tube for the rounded half of the woodruff key to rest in.

Great picture. Now that I know what it is I can find them everywhere...
As always. Thanks again

If the pedals themselves have severely worn bores and you cannot get them to snug up Willys developed a kit for just such a problem. It was a tie bolt with two end caps the squeezed the entire assembly tightly together (left to right).
No longer produced but easily mimicked.

Sorry to interrupt but how does this work? I can't see how it could stay on so it is just a tool? how do you keep things tight when you take it off?

It is a permanently mounted horizontal tensioning device that compresses the two pedals towards each other. This eliminates most of the excess tilting motion of worn out pedal bores and pedal hub side surfaces. You tighten the thru bolt only enough to reduce play with creating excessive friction.

then how do you mount the pedals to the frame? the posts can't go in with a bolt through it. or is there a second part to replace the pivots on the frame and the trans?

The bolt is the very last item installed!

Xamon,
You may be confusing the pedal assy with the linkage to the rear which mounts to the frame and trans posts.

right, you got me Rick, was thinking of the wrong tube. Anyway looks like a simple enough thing to make.
