Clutch pressure plate 27/32"

Hello - how important is this to be exactly 27/32 and what is the best way to measure if i do not have the tool shown in manual?

I was able to get a measurement.

one is 27/32 the other two are 28/32 or 7/8. Are the 28/32 a problem?

The max limit difference published in the manual is 0.005". 1/32" = 0.0313. That makes your two 28/32" fingers about 0.030 out of tolerance.

how do the clips come off to get to adjusting screws?

I would not try to adjust one unless the I knew the flywheel it was mounted on had a trued surface. If both the pressure plate and the flywheel are used condition then you will need to inspect both to insure they meet the published inspection criteria. The proper way to set them is on a steel plate used for that specific purpose.

The information for dis-assembly of the pressure plate is in your TM 9-8015-1 Engine & Clutch Maintenance manual. An important point to bring up here is that info in the TM's was for the Auburn clutch assembly. The Borg & Beck numbers were slightly different. The civvy manual offers better info that covers all three clutches that were interchangeable and used in most CJ's.

I had the flywheel faced by machine shop.

i did notice the clutch pressure plate mounting surface does not sit flat between the two mounting bolts. It is resting on bolt mounting area.

Disc is new pressure plate is reused. not sure of the brand of pressure plate.

If you follow the published tech data then by your description the pressure plate cover is not serviceable and needs to be reshaped or replaced. Read the technical pages carefully.
