According to a quick search it was in Japan somewhere.
"229TH Ordnance Base Depot, Oppama Ordnance Shop (OOS), located in Japan. I’ve been told that this was a former Japanese navy aircraft rebuild facility located in Yokohama, Japan and was converted to the 229TH Ordnance Base Depot, after the war"
but no guarantee.

Looks like the 229TH Ordnance Base Depot was originally in Japan at least from 1945 through 1954. Seems it later moved to Korea. It was originally established at the Sugita Seaplane Base. Part of the Japan Ordnance Command.

I can confirm that very similar (possibly identical) tags appear on Greek MAP jeeps that were released in the 90s, I'll try and find my old hard drive and see if I can copy them over. Many of the surviving M38s in Europe bare these tags.
True these jeeps were mostly rebuilt in Japan / Korea part of the world from about 53 onwards and shipped to 'friendly' nations to help stave off a Russian invasion by equipping them with rebuilt kit.
Sadly, many European restorers remove these tags from WWII type vehicles to try and boost the WWII provenience.

I have a similar rebuild tag on my A1 block. I'll post pictures when I get home this evening. I also was able to successfully uncover rebuild tags from the same Depot on the front and rear diff, transfer and steering gear box. ALL within the same 3 month period in 1956. Pretty amazing.
