Generator to regulator cable

This generator cable that came with my harness measures 36 inches and has a 90 degree connector on the regulator end.
Do you think that it is correct for the M38.
When I have it connected to the Generator and regulator I have a loop of cable that hangs down near the drive shaft.
Is that the way it is supposed to go?
How does your cable fit?

Ken,
The cable should be straight on both ends.
I'll look up the length.

It's about 20 inches too long if the 90 degree end is used. It's also about one inch in diameter.

It isn't for sale at the moment. It is the only cable I have that goes from generator to regulator. The ends will connect, but I have a lot of slack in the cable. So until I get the proper one I will keep this one. I have to call the person that sold it to me.
Anyone have a photo of yours installed?

Well I called the vendor that sold me the harness and cables. He said I was the first in 18 yrs to bring up this question. And as far as he knows it is the correct cable. I don't think it should fit this way. I can make it fit either on top or let the loop hang down on the bottom underneath.

Ken,
The cable should be straight on both ends.
I find it hard to believe that this vendor has never had a person question this item before!
I measured mine to be about 35 1/2 to 36 inches long.

here is what it looks like on my M38. The "loop" is just behind the tub brace thingy (what the heck is that actually called anyway?).

That looks like the early 51 and 50 fat boy cable. The metal support is called the "toeboard Gusset".
Here's what I wrote on the 503 about this:
The very early cable assembly was a Titeflex unit PNB37559 (WO PN 801191 & ORD PN 776732).
The later cable assembly was a Titeflex unit PN B36834 (ORD PN 7539500) .
None of the parts books specify when the switch took place but odds are it was shortly after August 1951.
The only difference I have noticed is the shielded sleeve asembly composition and diameter. Both have straight ends on each end. My 1952 unit 24.5" tip of connector to tip of connector. The rubber coated shield sleeve has "Titeflex Type 159A" on it.
Both have ORD stock number prefixes of G742 (REO 2 1/2T 6x6).
My late 52 cable.
This is what I believe to be the correct early cable assembly.

Did you try Star Electric? They might have it.
