Now the clutch wonted engage. The pedal is soft. I checked the linkage all the way up to the bell housing. It is not only good, but all of it is less than a year old. I disconnected the clutch release cable from the clutch bellcrank. The release cable was now free, but the clutch was still not engaged. I can freely move the cable back and forth. It doesn't pull loose, but there is no tension on it. The clutch and throw out bearing are less than a year old, by the way. Any ideas?

Verify your finding by placing the tranny in gear and pushing the jeep. Does it roll?

It does roll Wes. It ran fine last night. I sat down today, started it up, put it in reverse gear, and that's when i noticed the problem. I did spend a couple hours last night replacing the brake pedal arm. I loosened up the bolts on the bellcrank clutch/brake linkage in an attempt to get the brake pedal off. So the clutch pedal shifted in movement, but nothing else in the clutch linkage to my knowledge.

My money says while you were buggering around with the pedals you knocked the transfer case into neutral!

If this is not what happened then take off the inspection plate and have a look at what is going on.

And the upside to that is you do not have to crawl under it in the morning! Just take it out for a cruise Sunday!

Yep, a little blushing there, but everybody has those moments! Like Wes said, at least you can go for a drive without having to crawl back under her to work on her!

Which? The girl or the jeep? :-)
Glad things are going well on the jeep.

LOL, well, I guess it could be either, huh! Since he doesn't have to work on the Jeep, well, uh - you know how it goes.
