generator to regulator cable check
Am restoring an M38A1, which is in about 500 pieces. Am in the process of checking out parts before going to the trouble of cleaning, treating, etc. Noted that A and B of the gen to reg cable checks good but C does not pass continuity (and that is about the extent of my electric troubleshooting ability!). Called a friend (who knows about as much as I do!) and he said his cable did the same thing. Is this correct? And, if so, why.
Thanks in advance. Rapid.

A&C are paired for the armature to battery load and B is the field. The cable assembly shield provides the ground path. So I would say you have a broken wire between your C pins.

Wes, is the solid state regulator wired different at the connections. Reason I am asking is, that long cable I have that has the 90 degree end on it only has two wires in it on A & B. I guess the shield provides a connection too.
I had it (the cable) connected up when I checked the output of the regulator for the first test.
This cable which I have connected in the photo has three wires in it. I don't know if it is shielded.
I haven't tested this one yet. But I did ring out the wires in it. It is also a tight fit beings it is so short. I think it is about 22 or 23 inches long. It came with the used generator I bought.
Well for some reason I can't get the photo to appear.
