Support b/t transmission crossmember and engine.
I have seen on a few pictures what looks like a support b/t the tranny crosmember and the engine. It has a ball on the end a hooks on the forked piece on the crossmember. My M38 has the forked piece on the crossmember but nothing is attatched to it. What does it do and does anyone have a good pic of the whole thing?

I believe it's called the engine stay cable. I don't have a clear picture of it in my computer files, but it has a ball on the end that fits in the part on the cross member and the other end is threaded and goes thru the lower left hole on the bell housing.

Longer threaded bolt in the th bell on your right in the photo is the front end of the stay cable.

This is the ball on the rear end of the stay cable in the bracket you mentioned.

Ryan; here is a pic of the other end at the bell housing. the red arrow is where the threaded end of the cable bolts through the bell housing; the yellow arrow is the emergency brake bracket/clamp that slides over the threaded end of the cable; and the blue arrow is the emergency brake cable. Hope this helps

She keeps the engine from shifting too far forward and from torqueing over to the right too much. So things like the radiator and the shroud can get damaged duting hard stops or high torque applications.
