USA Numbers

Post by bbloom »

I know no one can give me an exact USA number for my hood, but I am looking for possibly a range of numbers that it might fall into. My serial number for my M38 is 65105 with a date of delivery of 4/52.

You are best to incorporate your MC# into your hood # if you don't know it. For the sake of keeping any info straight, don't make one up or take a # from a vintage pic. There is much info about this on this site, just search for 'hood numbers' or 'numbers''

Here is one.

From WesK's post:
236XXXX was used on roughly the first 4000 M38's about Sep 50 thru Jan 51
238XXXX was used on roughly the next 8000 M38's about Feb 51 thru May 51
208XXXXX began May 51
209XXXXX began Sep 51

In your case you could go with '20965105'

I had the same situation, my delivery date was 8/51, with MC29199. I went with 20829199 for my hood #.

Thanks for the info Brett. Yes I was looking for the correct first few numbers, then I'd use something else to finish it out. I like your idea. Are 8 numbers the correct amount?

The switch from 7 to 8 digits occurred around MC20XXX.
