Hi guys!
Just curious about my engine in my recently aquired M38A1. Seeing it is missing its serial number off the engine. (must of been machined off when the previous had it rebuilt)

It has the following casting number:-

806279-W-12-D-AP CU (over) CR

Any idea what vintage the engine is and if infact it is a military engine?

I can give you the following information:
My jeep is a Dutch military jeep M38A1(Nekaf) with the engine number
806279 W-12 DAR GU
CA or CR.
You found the number 806279 back in the manual ORD9 SNL G-758 on page 35 as a MFR's number and the W-12 DAR etc. is the number of the foundry.

Sorry but no good news for you. That block casting 806279-W-12-D-AP CU (over) CR was used by Willys in all their F134 powered vehicles from 53 through 71. The basic long block or complete engine without accessories is the same for all. The only thing that makes a block specific to a certain model Willys/Kaiser chassis is the serial prefix and even then it's a wee bit general. For example the serial prefix MDXXXXX or RMDXXXXX (for factory new replacement & spare engines) was used for all M38A1 series and the M170. A 4JXXXXX or 4JRXXXXX prefix could be found in a CJ3B, CJ5, or a F134 powered Willys truck from 53 thru 71.

department. They may have a chemical which will
'bring out' the ground off numbers. I know that this
