M38 Fuel Tanks....(no more Gas Tank Renu)

Well, after two attempts by Gas Tank Renu to mend my original M38 fuel tank I have given up on keeping the original tank in place. It has been a very frustrating and expensive experience.

I was wondering who makes the best fitting replacement tank with the neck extension slides properly fitted. I know in the past the MD Juan tanks were not very desirable because of their poor fit. Has any progress been made to correct the tank dimensions and neck angle on reproduction tanks?

Any advice for a replacement tank would be appreciated.

PS- I tried to search this forum for past tank threads but i get 605 hits and must have missed any previous conversations regarding this subject.

Thanks Rick-

I checked out the thread from 2011 and it looks like the tanks were improving. I wonder if there have been further improvements since then? If so, it may be worth picking one up.

I have an original tank that has been sealed, I bought it for a restoration but lost interest in the project , I can send pics if interested, I would need $ 300.00 + shipping from 80017.

One method I have seen done is to remove the original neck and then attach it to a new MD Juan tank that had its neck removed.

A lot of work but everything is essentially new and lines up correctly.

There are several places that will take your tank apart and replace rusty sheetmetal and put it back together.

Google it, I looked up a few years ago and some had great websites with some nice work.
