1953 M38A1 SN# MD 57610 has military engine installed with all original 24Volt systems intact. Have not found engine serial number yet, but the casting numbers are as follows:
646228-L-W4 AN1-GR-N2
Please be so kind and provide decoding of this casting number. I will provide the engine serial number when I clean off the paint at the boss above the water pump. Engine has original OD paint still applied.
Thanks!

Engine would not be original to a 53 M38A1. That's the very early casting number used in 1952 on the M38A1 as well as civvy jeeps with the F134 back then.Until you find the serial number you will not be positive on weather it is civvy or military. Paint could have been applied anytime between 1952 and today.
