While trying to remove the distributer on my M38 over the last 6 months or so I discovered that the body has extensive stress cracking in the sheet metal and a couple of places on the frame. Add the rust repair needed and you get a nearly complete motorpool restoration just to make it safe to drive on the road. Fortunately the jeep has tested out to be essentially brand new for the power train and related parts and it is mostly complete. Got lucky on that part!
So what needs repaired is the cosmetic aspects of the jeep and electrics.
The jeep seems a little unusual at the number of uses it appears to have had over the years. I plan on keeping the military installed Kemco hard top for winter use but use a soft top in the summer.
It has been painted Flight Line Yellow (all over), has various parts painted Air Force Blue, an original paint job of O.D. and possibly USMC green too.
What would you paint it if it was your jeep? I am leaning toward Flight Line Yellow (a type of Chrome Yellow) due to how unusual it appears. Although I do not have plans to sell it I am also interested in value and have seen jeeps double in price because they are painted OD green!

Be sure and look me up. You've probably seen me up at OSH. For the last three years, I was driving my buddy's uncut MUTT working the Warbird flightline. This will be the first year for my own M38 (just bought it last month)., 9th year volunteering, about 20th year going up.skyjeep50 wrote:Flight line yellow - I don't think the color will detract from value and might even enhance it. Doc - I'm going to be checking out your jeep at Osh this summer! I think it will be my 24th year in a row there. I always visit the M38 tent next to Warbird building on the flight line.
