The number is from a 1962 M38A1 of about serial number 87XXX. Is the hood all you have left of this A1?

Hillbilly21 email me and the hood is from a M422. It was very close to a batch of Aug 1962 M38A1s and just below them was the start of M422 hood numbers. I wasn't too much help to Hillbilly21 other than sending him a clipping of the database so he could see how his hood number fell within it. I on the other hand gain quite a bit of information---his hood number moved me close to the ending M38A1 hood number and closer to the M422 starting hood number.

If you have a late model M38A1 (1960 to 1964)--I am very interested in your Date of delivery and contract number. These late A1s appear to have only been delivered in small "batches" in just a couple of months during the year. The data I have so far looks like this...........It appears that 1962 was the banner year for the late A1s.

1960 Deliverys---December
1961 Deliverys---Jan, Feb, Dec
1962 Deliverys---Jan, March, July, August, Sept, Nov
1963 Deliverys---Sept, Oct
1964 Deliverys---Sept, Oct, Nov, Dec

Does anyone have a late M38A1 that has a DOD outside of whats listed??

Thanks!

So if I understand correctly the statement " The number is from a 1962 M38A1 of about serial number 87XXX. " is incorrect?

The hood was from a M422 so Reg # 306107 is a what date and serial M422 hood number?

And what was hillbilly's M38A1 serial number?
