Venting & fuel supply line

I am trying to build and fit the vent tubes and fuel supply tube before I put the tub on.

Questions:

1. Are the master cylinder vent and fuel tank vents attached with a clamp to the back of the engine block? My block has a 1/4" threaded hole near the right side same height as the accelerator pedal bracket.

2. Or are they just clamped together away from the block?

3. Can the fuel supply line be installed before the tub goes on?

4. Or is it better to do when tub is on frame?

5. How is the fuel line routed? Under the frame, inside the frame?

6. What are the measurements of the fuel supply line with bends included.
If I can't get pre-measurements then I guess I'll have to
make measurements when the tub is on.

7. As for the tank vent line, What are its measurements? If no one has
the measurements, then I'll have to make them after the tub goes on.

1. Vent lines routing behind the engine block are mounted to the firewall.

2. Fuel supply lines connect to the drivers front fender amount other locations, so I would bet installation after tub/fender assembly would be best.

3. Fuel line is routed out the small hole in the tub floor riser behind the fuel tank and follows the bottom of the tub near the frame rail - there is an illustration in the TM and ORD 9 manuals, I am visiting relatives today and tomorrow, so I don't have the page numbers handy.

4. As far as measurements, it is best to fit and bend as you go on your project as vehicles may vary a little according to fit of the sheet metal and frame (after 50 years).
It is a tedious process.

You can also get some lines from Hal Miller for the vent tubes, they are precut, with the fittings although they are not pre bent, which like I said before it is best to do on the vehicle.

Thanks Ryan, I was working on the master cylinder vent tube when the thought occured to me that attaching the tube to the block didn't seem like a good idea, since the engine would be moving because of torgue. So I prsented the question here.

I don't have any photos to update yet.

I got the engine back recently and installed all of it (the engine, trans, transfercase back, radiator etc. on the frame

I haven't started the engine since shop replaced the seal.

Oh, where does the engine bay battery cable negative wire attach to the frame or engine?

Ken,

I think you bought a vent line kit from me, the fuel tank line is the copper line with 45" of loom(loom goes towards the tank) and line is 86" long... it is routed from the vent to the drivers side of the tub, under the lip. Then following the lip thru the hole in the support at the front of the dash, thru the fire wall and along the firewall to the air filter...

As for the fuel line best to route them after tub goes on... and tank is in position, but loose to allow room to work...

The front battery ground lead fastens to the front of the tray support frame.

Hal I didn't buy any tubes from you. I picked up tubes from auto parts store. Maybe I should of had you send me them.

Another Question: The tank vent line is 3/16" copper.... right?
And the fuel supply line is 1/4" steel....right? That is what the old one is.

I'll see if I can locate the mounting hole for the cable.

About the battery cables.
I have one cable that is a No. 2 ga and measures 21 or 22 inches. Another cable that is no. 1 ga and measures 52 inches.

I have some welding cable that is no. 1 ga. also that I was going to use to make a cable with.

The parts list doesn't tell (or at least I didn't see it) the lengths of the separate battery cables. I only found that the cable used is AWG no. 2.

Are the cable lengths listed some where?

Ken,

The vent is copper correct... also the fuel supply line is steel...

I had some number 2 rubber coated wire and was able to make my battery cables with that... I was able to find the copper lugs at ACE...

I need to know what the cable lengths are.
No.2 cable is smaller than No. 1 isn't it?

Yes, #2 is one size smaller than #1, the TM calls for #2, but no problem there bigger is better handles more current.

I put lugs on one end then laid the cable out to where it needed to go and then cut to fit... the TM does not state lengths... you might add 6 inches just to be safe...

You guys are looking in the wrong place for battery cable data. It's in the SNL ORD 8- G-740.

Front battery to ground = 16"
Battery to Battery = 30"
Rear battery to starter = 18"

Don't forget the 4 clamps. ORD # 120527 loop type steel cad or zin pltd 5/8" diameter and 1/4" bolt hole.
1-Battery to battery cable at right fender splash shield.
1-Positive aft battery cable to dash.
1-Battery to battery cable at dash.
1-Front battery ground cable at right fender splash apron.
