Top bow rear bracket placement

Post by cabinfever »

What is the proper way to mount the rear top bow brackets on a M38A1? With the top part of the bracket toward the inside of the tub (making a narrower distance between the two brackets) or facing the outside (making a wider distance)? Mine are currently facing inward and I cannot fit the top bows between the two brackets.

Brackets

I've never seen brackets mounted as in the first picture. My M38A1 has the latter type and the bows fit the brackets very nicely.

Just open up your TM 9-8014 operator's maintenance manual to pages 314 and 315, figures 190 & 185. Or to pages 6 & 7, figures 1 & 2.

Thanks everyone. Apparently I had mine in backwards. Never realized this before because I just store the bows in the shed when I go "topless."

I'm getting the A1 in tiptop condition. I will be driving three WWII vets in the 4th of July parade. I want to have the canvas off and the top bows stored properly for the ride.

Thanks again
