Hey, All!

The M-38 wasn't enough, now I'm restoring an M-100 trailer, and the 1st problem has surfaced!

The ratchet assembly for the park brake appears to be totally reversed from what
I have seen in photos, meaning I have to mount it on the OUTSIDE of the mounting bracket instead of the INSIDE to have the teeth point in the correct direction. Basically, it appears to have the raised portion(s) on the wrong side!

This photo is what it SHOULD be, again, mine is reversed! Also, it is stamped with a large 'R'.



Were there alternate versions, AND, more to the point, where can I find the correct piece ?

This is a closeup of the part in error:



and the (incorrect) assembly, forced because of incorrect bend and 'dimple'. Please note that the 'rake' of the teeth is correct for the locking of the handle.



Looking closely at the closeup(s), you can see the bend/dimple is REVERSED from yours!

See, I'm NOT crazy, contrary to a commonly held belief locally!

The early M101 and M104 trailers used the same type brake lever assembly as the M100 but had two of them per trailer - a left and right - and are stamped "L" and "R" accordingly. They were mounted on the front center of the M101 and (I believe) on the rear of the M104 (one on each side). I believe the "R" on your assembly is for "right hand". They can be switched and still be functional if you mount them on the opposite side of the mounting bracket. It appears that someone mounted a right hand lever assembly from an M101 or M104 on your M100.

That TOTALLY makes sense out of my concern. I checked some M-101 images and you are correct.

I'll assemble it using some locally fabricated spacers so that it will at least appear to be correct. Not a major problem, I'm used to it!

Where would we all be were it not for the members of these forums ?
