I saw this on craigs list on the St. Louis site in sesser il. Emailed the guy about something that didn't look right and have not gotten a reply back.

If it was advertised as a CJ5 it would be a lot better - doesn't look like a bad jeep at all and probably worth the 6K. But I wonder where the guy came up with the idea that this jeep was what a real M38A1 looked like?? Shovel, spare tire and gas can on the pass. side? Marine Corps boxed rear cross member and USMC stenciled on bumpers but U.S. Army on the hood? (An inter-service jeep?) Looks like a WWII O.D. color, not Marine forest green. Cow catcher front bumper?? Kind of like asking a blind person who has never seen one to describe an elephant after only being able to touch one in a couple of places.

The more one looks the crazier it gets.
The wheels are made for hubcaps.
Wonder if it is 24 volt?

can you explain? They look like M38 rims. I'm just learning so excuse the ignorance but I knew right away that was no flattie

The mentioned civvy wheel
Where it came from and a look at the small baldy type hub cap.
M38 & early M38A1 stock wheel
Late M38A1 wheel and late stock replacement wheel.
The 4 1/2" rim width is measured here.

Thanks for the detailed info Wes. I just picked up a set of rims for my M38 and looks like I got the right ones

i have ran two tanks of fuel through it at idle to break it in
After this idle "procedure", might need a rebuild again.

A lot of exterior diamond plate at the usual suspect rust-out areas.
Has the A1 cowl batt box but it also has a tailgate.
Dig that crazy instrument cluster!!

he is referring to the line in the ad that states it's a new engine that had two tanks of gas burned at idle speed for break in.

I missed that. GPA, you are correct. Yes it will probably have issues with that ridiculous break-in regimen he used. Had any common sense been applied to the situation at all he would have at least varied the RPM setting using the hand throttle if it is there!
The whole jeep may prove to be cute to some unknowing buyer but obviously not to anyone remotely familiar with a M38A1.
I see the following NON M38A1 items:
1-Bumper
2-Hood
3-Windshield glass.
4-Wipers
5-Wheels
6-Tub is CJ5
7-Dash
8-Heater
9-Glove Box
10-Firewall battery tray.
11-Tailgate
12-Air cleaner
13-Carb
14-12V Battery
15-12V Alternator
16-Missing ran shroud.
17-Fuel Pump
18-Ignition system.
19-Single wide belt pulleys.
20-Tranny shifter cane.
21-All that diamond plate panel.
22-The smooth floor skins.
23-The smooth rear wheel house side skins.
24-The rear bumperettes.
25-Gas tank
26-Handholds
That's without seeing the rest of the jeep. Are there anymore photos? Especially of the underside of the jeep? Note the severely pitted passenger seat frame.

I keep seeing the rubber hose from pump to carb,makes one wonder about how the rest was put together.
