bell crank

First of all I realize this is a common subject as I have gone back as far as I can and read all of the posts regarding bell cranks.

Everything under my unit flopped between the steering wheel and the hubs, so I started at the front and am working my way back.

I ordered a bell crank kit from John at Midwest Military. Very fast shipping, and John is very helpful on the phone.

I cleaned up everything and put it back in this morning. The bell crank would not tighten up to the frame mount. Maybe 1/8" or more of vertical play. I checked to see if I had put everything in that belonged, then came back in and pulled up the bell crank posts again.

Here is a photo from a previous post.

What is interesting in my case is I am just the reverse than what is shown here. My old bolt looks like Murdock's new bolt, and vice-versa.

My old bolt is on the left and new one on the right.

I cleaned up the takeoff and put it back in and everything snugs up within 1/32 - 1/16. I do not have the cross bolt tight yet. Wondering if I need a shim at the bottom.

I've contacted John to see if a new bolt with the takeoff profile is available.

Hello Chris,
Yes, I had seen those bolts side by side with dimensions.

Thanks for posting them,
Brian

Chris,
It is interesting that your photo shows the two old or takeoff bolts as having no machined recess for the 7/16" top bolt.

My takeoff bolt looks just like your "new" bolt at far right.

The one I just purchased looks like one of the ones on the left with the recess for the top bolt, as well as no hole for the cotter pin.

Thanks,
Brian
