dimmer switch

I removed the dimmer switch a while back.
I noticed that when I depress the switch there is no click, detent, or anything. Should there be?
Also did a continuity test between both terminals, and both terminals and ground, while pressing the switch in.
I did read this earlier post on the switches:
http://www.willysmjeeps.com/v2/modules. ... mer+switch
It is an original Douglas switch with Douglas connectors. I did notice the ground wire had no insulation on it.
I'd appreciate some insight to troubleshooting please.
Thanks!
Brian

Sorry forgot to post I did not get any continuity between any of the three terminals, even when depressing the switch.

Yep it should toggle, with a click, moving continuity between 2 terminals to the 3rd terminal common point.
Sounds like you may need new one.

I spoke too quickly, now that I think about it, I don't have a stock switch, rather a CJ switch but still the function should be the same. It just directs the voltage to one filament or the other one at a time. I can't comment on the index or click.

I just remember the floor dimmer switches from my younger days.
They popped when you stepped on them, and just toggled from bright on to bright off.
Just not sure if the Douglas version should do the same.
Of course the real hint is the Bubba-installed dimmer switch further down the pan towards the floor...................
BTW, did you use 1/16" for your battery box material?
Tks,
Brian

Ya, they had definite click.
Are you talking about the cowl battery box? I purchased that from John Bizal at midwest military

Hi Brian,
More information about the switch:
This data of the switch from my M38A1 is the same as the M38, see ORD9 SNL G-740 page 155.
See Photo Gallery my album sinrisnekaf for pictures.

Hi Chris,
Once again thank you for the detailed photos.
Yes, this is the switch I have. Wire 17 is bare wire all the way into the case.
I suspect this switch is dead.
Thanks,
Brian
