Well, I started the M38 for the first time since I assembled the body and wired it. Sounded pretty goo dbut could use some fine tuning. Drives a heck of a lot better than my M37. When running all is well but after a short drive I'm getting an oil drip from rear of engine. I'm thinking Rear main seal. Motor was rebuilt by previous owner. Can I replace the rear main seal with the enine in the jeep??? Hate to pull the motor just for that.....

If you have a lift so you can stand under the jeep then I would say it may be worth it not to pull the engine. I jsut pull the engine. It takes only 1.5 hours to get it out and 2.5 to get her back together. You also get a good view of the back of the engine to make sure the rear cam journal welsh plug is not causing your oil leak. Not to mention a good look at the clutch.

You have to drop the oil pan and loosen all the bearing caps and remove the rear cap with oil dripping in your face. You can't do a very good inspection of the crank while you're in there.

Thanks wes. I had it all apart when I bought it. Engine was rebuilt so all i did was oil bearings and reassemble the oil pan. The oil level on gauge was kind of high and leak seems to have really slowed down a lot. If it keeps up I'll pull it apart again and throw a new seal in it.
Runs a little rough... would the vacuum line not being attached to anything contribute to that???

Thanks Bill. Took it for a couple short rides so far. I live on a dirt road so it's killing me to get dirt on it. I plugged the open wiper T and it runs better. Seems to not be leaking nearly as much either. Still need to add horn guts as soon as I find them and get it registered. Have to finish painting wheels too but just couldn't wait to drive it.

Thanks again Bill. Couldn't have done it without your help. I ended up using the drive train from that one plus a ton of odds and ends on the frame from the M38 I had. If you come accross and more M38s or a1s let me know. The fiance wants one of her own now and I have a TON of extra stuff just dying to get put into another project.
