the original light switch on my 53 m38 a1 had been removed and the hole bondoed over. i have removed the bondo and have a switch out of a newer model truck. it will fit the hole perfect but will it work?

If the plug fits it should work. When you say later model are you just talking an newer M series with the 3 lever switch or the really newer push botton switch?
