So I bought the rattle can spray paint from Kaiser Willy's to paint some of my smaller parts with but was unsure what and where everyone else is using for their engine blocks etc. That is exposed to heat??? Local hardware store? I'm looking for suggestions and maybe some sources to get some. Thanks

Go ahead and use it on the block. Only part of these engines getting hot enough to burn the paint off is the exhaust manifold... I use 1200 degree brown on those to help keep the rust down...

this is my opinion

Hope this helps...

Excellent...... How does that brown look on the manifold and tail pipe?

I only paint the manifold... Using Brown it makes the manifold have that used look, but keeps the rust to a minimum... I do not paint the pipes...

I will try to remember to post a photo later... to dark and windy to open the garage to get to the motor...

Here's an RMCXXXXX factory replacement engine as it came out of the crate. It was NOS and was crated by Willys in Nov 53. The paint looks too brown because of the yellowish lighting in the building.
