The headlights are aimed on a vehicle as it set that day. If you have removed the buckets and made any changes to the sheet metal, suspension or frame the old alignment will be useless. So just throw them in either hole and spend about 20 minutes aligning them if they end out of alignment or you may need to switch them or you may just get lucky and they are still aligned.

Buzz,
The adjustment screws that would be considered the side angle adjustment would be on the outside edge, or facing outboard on the grill.

The buckets and mountings are identical. The inner mounting would place the horizontal adjusting screws to the passenger side for both units. The manual illustrations show the right headlamp only. It would not be possible to reverse the lamp mounting to reverse the horizontal adjusting screw to be outboard on the driver's lamp. The three mounting screws are not equally spaced. A lot of folks get fooled by this manual illustration. Then when they try to rotate the driver side inner lamp mount they see that any position other than identical to passenger side results in misaligned screws.
