I acquired a 1953 m38a1 that is just a body and frame. Now I'm officially a bubba having owned and modified a bunch of jeeps. The thing that bothers me is the good enough attitude displayed by a number of people I've encountered doing the same thing . Case in point, the a1 that I'm presently building. The previous owner did a Saginaw steering swap similar to army incs jeep using 1/2 x 2 angle complete with about a half pound of weld that had no penetration at all. The front crossmember www cut completely in half and a piece of 1/2 x4 flat bar tying it back together. The leftover flat was used to mount a 350 Chevy. I was able to remove the steering mount and the motor mounts with a hammer. What bothers me is he or she was driving this rig. In a society bent on saving us from ourseives how many of these kind of builds would it take to shut our respective hobbies down?

fording cutout with plate, and a 2" roll bar welded to the 18
gauge cowl sheet metal .....

Bubba is Important

Just remember Bubba in your Prayers. ...Bubba (Earl or Fred... he goes by many names) stands just behind the guy who stored his old jeep in a nice dry spot in some far flung shed, ready for some aspiring restorer to come along and fall in love and bring the "old girl" back to original......On the other hand, you have those who left the "old girl" out in the rain, snow, dust and mud, and she slowly rusted away so no one could restore it.....Then you have Bubba, a giant of a man, he kept the jeep going all those years with bits of wire, angle iron, do-hickeys, and "add on's", modifications, slap happy welds, and the good Lord only knows what else. BUT!!....what he did was save it for the adventurous restorer to remove all those things....so next time you pick up an old wreck Bubba has played with, be thankful. it could have been far worse....Raise a glass of frothy stuff to Bubba, the unsung hero of the jeep....no matter how much we loath his handiwork...without him, half of us wouldn't have a jeep today. '

So "Thank You Bubba"...you saved a jeep for me.


Found this in an earlier post-Without Bubba's skills (or lack thereof) many of us would not have a jeep to work with. Most would have been to the scrap heap by now if not for Bubba's TLC.
