I bought a new winter top and door skin. How can I remove the door handle without scrapping the shaft?

It's the riveted type? Why do you want to remove it?

I need to replace the canvas. It is the original riveted style.

carefully grind the peened end off to get the handle off then either tack weld handle on or do like I did, tap the shaft and put a screw in

What I don't understand is with folding door frames, why didn't they make the handles removable? Or were you just supposed to unfold the frames and wrap the canvas up with them?

I don't know if it will help but check out RickG and mine door posts.

If you look closely at manual illustrations that appears to be what you do.

Thank you every body. I will make a new pivot to eliminate the slack with the handles.
