Discounted Carburetor

Hey,

I bought one of the 'Brand X' carbs from AJP for my M-38 even after being warned that He had problems with it (my fault, no blame). Whatever, has anyone had any success with it? I can't get a smooth idle OR good higher speeds, seems like fuel starvation, but not my area of expertise.

Help !!!!

Thanks in advance,

Bill

If you mean a Solex I found 1st the fuel pressure is very important, I used an electric pump but you can use a regulator. Then on mine we had to sweak the high speed - I'm told most work right out of the box if the pressure is correct, but I had to adjust as it would die when you stepped on the gas. So far it's run well.

Sorry, wrong carb!

My mistake, I should have done a little better on my description! This was a 'knock-off' of the Carter YS-637 for an M-38, seemingly identical in every feature, he sold them on ebay for about $75. In the auction it was stated that he had been unable to get a decent idle out of them.A later follow-up with AJP indicated no further luck!

Surely someone besides Me tried one of these, and hopefully got them to work OK!

OMG - I got it to work!

#1 - Float level, WAY off, shutting off fuel, (low level in bowl)

#2 - Upper hole in Bleeder tube (Item RS in manual) partially plugged with small residue from drilling it
during manufacturing process.

#3 - Bleeder tube not tightened, possible partial air leak

Which one did the most good? Darned if I know

Thanks for the help, gave me the impetus to open it up!

That's good news Bill!! Keep us informed how it performs in the long run.
Bad news is the discount price will no longer be a discount price

It has been a definite success story, runs MUCH better than the old/worn out 'WO' I had on there! Looks a $&% of a lot better too.

Now working (still) on finding 'affordable' m-38 waterproof ignition wires at a low price.

In the 1st post, I mistakenly listed AJP as where I bought it! In actuality, it was Brent Mullins Jeep parts:

http://mullinsjeepparts.com

The site was down just now, so I have no idea if there are any more.

I will make the modificatios and see how well it works. Brent Mullins was up front with the sale of these, so I knew that problems but I bought it because of the cheap price with the thoughts of using it as a core.
Thanks for the info.
