MC38 a engine removal

Post by Judorob »

Hi

Looking to remove the Datsun pickup engine in my M38 and fit the 1949 engine I have just bought
Question - how easy is it do do minus starter ?
Is the engine back heavy? Is there a "knack" land rovers are horrible to do
Should I lead it back down? I have no idea what to expect
Bay will be emptied of radiator etc
Should I remove a wing or both?
Thank you in advance

Robin,
Experienced motor pullers will chime in I'm sure
but I would start with pulling the grille and both fenders.
Since you are pulling the rad this will make that job easier
as well.

Then all you have is the frame and the firewall in your way.

The TM-9-8012 readily available on this site has complete instructions for engine removal.

Follow TM 9-8012 in so far as it applies to your Datsun engine. It would help us to better help you if we saw your installation, especially the front mounts and what you have behind the datsun engine for a tranny/transfer.

Yes, both wings should be removed and the large center forward floor panels as well.
