L134 Idle Timing

I have my 1952 M38 idle timing set at 5 BTDC as identified in the TM, but I was wondering if these engines could benefit from a little more initial timing? The engine has a fairly consistent cranking pressure in all cylinders ranging from 90 - 95 and the plugs burn reasonably clean, but at idle I get a little "sputtering" sound. Under light or full throttle the is no miss and the engine pulls strong.

Thanks.

If I remember correctly Wes has posted before that with modern gas an advance up to 10 degrees may be needed.

It can stand a bit more advance. That 5 mark was for 73 Oct fuel in the 50's. I wouldn't push it over 10.
