M38 Vs G503 engine front plate

Hi everybody,
it's been a few years since I posted here. Hope everybody is OK and well.
Anyway, here's my problem.
I restored my M38 some years ago. This summer I went to pull her out of the shed and found the engine seized solid, over winter the water had migrated from the cooling system to the sump, two Imperial gallons of sludge met me when I went to change the oil, then worse found the engine locked solid.
Now, I have a French M201 engine Military rebuild in a crate which (this is simply a WWII Willys engine rebuilt with 24volt electrics) will bolt straight in except for the fact that the engine front plate is the same as the WWII Willys and the left hand front engine mounting flange points towards the rear instead of the front like the M38 engine.
Am I correct in thinking I can strip both engines and fit the M38 type front plate to the WWII block so that the engine mounting on the chassis will line up?
Or is there a simpler fix?
Ta, Dave.
