leaking seal

Post by circleburner12 »

my a1 seems to be leaking gear oil from the pinion seal, when i drive it, it throws oil all underneath the tub. when sitting it leaks but not a hugh amount. new seals and a new yoke was used when i had it rebuilt!

question?- is there anything else i need to look at that may cause this. thxs

Did you by any chance use the sealant stuff on the splines of the pinon shaft and the yoke? Mine was laking like a sieve until I applied the sealant to the splines.....now it just leaks like a normal jeep.

Oh yeah....and also look at the area just behind your rock deflector where the seal lip rides. If it has a noticable groove worn in it where the seal rides it will never work with the new seal and must be replaced, built-up and worked back down or have a redi-sleeve installed.

jim i really dont know, on both of your replies. i had a guy to rebuild everthing. i contacted him today and let him know it only had 15 miles on it and its slinging oil everywhere. after a few words between us he's suppose to redo it.

Just out of curiosity, exactly where is the oil being slung out....front or rear differential? Since I missed that part previously about the yoke being new I'm gonna bet its leaking down the splines. In any event....good luck....when mine leaked the only person i could yell at was.....well....me. But I am pleased to say I was eventually able to extort myself into fixing "most" of my leak?
