Dash data plate mounting question

Post by Bretto »

According to the ORD 9, and if I understand it correctly, any MC#'s below 34151 had the dash plates individually mounted on the dash? In my restore I didn't see any evidence of holes in the dash other than the four that are there for the larger backing plate. My MC# is 29199 so I enter the unknown if maybe my tub isnt original or my MC# is wrong. I bought it with no plates present but have a title and there is a MC29199 stamped on the frame that matches the # on the title.
I don't really care, just an observation and I plan to put the plates on a backing plate then on to the dash.

With that, does anyone have the dimensions of the backing plate you can get to me?
Thanks

Did your dash have the heater duct hole in it to the right of the instrument cluster?

Why yes, I hadn't even given that any thought. Here is a shot of it. The reason there isn't a fourth hole for a plate is that the previous owner had a cassette player right in that area as you can faintly see from my not so perfect fix.

That dash is newer than MC34151. Early model dashes that had the heater hole cut in the field were usually very crudely cut and not in that exact location.

Do you know in what year the 34151 was issued? Just trying to determine if mine could still be a '51. I'm titled as so and going to run with that but it would be nice to just know. I'm sure the army changed tubs sometimes if needed?
Thanks Wes

34151 is a Sep 1951 unit.
